There is a restaurant chain in Charlotte, NC that has been passing their credit card fees on to the servers. One bartender paid out around $600 in a year and finally quit. He had worked for them for six years.
We placed a call to the people who administer the regulations for Visa/Master Card. Not only is this unethical, it is against the law. We also spoke with the District Attorney to make sure where things stand.
The Servers Alliance is in the process of drafting a letter to the ownership group requesting that they stop what they are doing, refund all the money they have taken from their valued servers and never do it again. If they don’t comply, let’s just say it is not going to be very pretty.
